Updating your will after you have generated it

Quick answer
Change your answers, then press Refresh my documents on Your documents to rebuild the PDFs. Editing and rebuilding do not use up a credit. Your purchase includes three years of updates; after that, documents you have already generated stay in your account to view and download.

Yes, you can change things afterwards

Generating a document is not the end. Life changes, and the product is built for that.

The steps

  1. Go back to your answers. From the review screen there is a link, Review all answers or make a change; you can also simply return to your will and carry on.
  2. Change what needs changing.
  3. Go to Your documents and press Refresh my documents.

The page explains the button as you would expect: "Updated your answers? Refresh to rebuild your Will and Discovery Kit PDFs with your latest changes." While it works it says Refreshing…, then tells you your documents have been refreshed.

What it costs

Nothing. Changing an answer, rebuilding your documents and downloading them again do not use up a credit. Credits are spent when you start something new — a will for another person, or a Funeral Pre-Planner — not when you revise something you already have.

Sign the new version

A rebuilt Will is a new document. It has to be signed and witnessed the same way the first one did — a signature on the old copy does not carry across. See Signing and witnessing your will, and please destroy the old printed copy once the new one is signed, so nobody finds the wrong one later.

The three-year update window

Your purchase includes three years of updates from the day you bought, at no extra cost.

While the window is open you can change answers and generate documents as often as you like.

When it closes, two things stop: starting a new edit, and generating a new document. Nothing you have already generated is affected. Everything you generated stays in your account, and you can still open it and download it. The product says this in as many words when the window closes: everything you generated is still here to view and download.

If you want to keep making changes after that, you can extend the window. We email you about it as the date approaches, and you can also ask from Support in your account.

There is more detail in How long your credits last.
