Signing in with the email link

Quick answer
Enter your email address and press Continue. We send you a sign-in link. Open the link and you are signed in — in whichever tab you open it. There is no password and no code to type in.

The steps

  1. Go to the sign-in page. It is headed Get started, whether you are new or coming back.
  2. Type your address into the box labelled Email.
  3. Press Continue.
  4. The page changes to Check your email, with the line "We sent you a sign-in link. Open it and you'll be signed in."
  5. Open your email and click the link.

That signs you in. You can then close the email.

There is no code to type

Some services email you a number to copy back into the page. We do not. If you are looking for a box to type a code into, there isn't one — the link itself does the whole job.

Which tab you end up signed in to

You are signed in in the tab where you open the link. If you opened the link on your phone, you are signed in on your phone.

The original tab — the one still showing Check your email — does not notice. It will keep showing that message. Nothing is wrong. You can simply close it and carry on in the tab where you opened the link.

Starting again with a different address

On the Check your email screen there is a button labelled Use a different email. Press it and you are taken back to the email box, where you can type another address and press Continue again. You can ask for a link again this way as many times as you need to.
