Starting an Order of Service session

Quick answer
The Order of Service Planner is a separate purchase from the will bundle. One payment gives you two planning sessions, and you can start a new one for two years. The price is the one shown on the purchase screen. If you already bought the will bundle you will still be asked to pay for this — that is correct, not a fault. There is also a free guide you can read first, without an account.

Before anything else, there is a free guide

If someone has just died and you are not ready to plan a service yet, you do not have to. There is a free guide at When someone you love has died: first steps. It needs no account and no payment. It covers the first hours and days — what usually has to happen, what can wait, and where to find support, including the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline, 2-1-1 Canada and the Hope for Wellness Help Line.

Read it as many times as you like. When you feel ready, the link at the bottom of it is When you're ready, let's plan the whole service.

The Order of Service Planner is a separate purchase

This is the part people most often ask about, so it is worth saying plainly.

The Order of Service Planner is not part of the It's Simple Will bundle. If you bought the bundle — your will, your Life Discovery Kit, your Funeral Wishes Plan — that purchase includes no Order of Service sessions at all. When you open the planner it will ask you to buy it. That is correct. It is not a fault, and you have not lost anything you paid for.

They are different products for different moments. The bundle is for setting down your own wishes while you are here. The Order of Service Planner is for a family member arranging a service after someone has died.

What one purchase includes

  • Two planning sessions. One session covers one person's service. Two means a family that faces a second loss inside the window does not pay again.
  • Two years to start them, counted from the day you buy.
  • One payment. There is no subscription and nothing to cancel. The current price is shown on the purchase screen, and that figure is always the live one.

Buying it

If your account has no session credit, the planner shows You need a credit to start a session, followed by the price, a short note about refunds, a tick box confirming you have read the Refund Policy and Terms, and a button reading Get the Order of Service planner. The tick box starts empty, and the button does nothing until you tick it.

If the price cannot be shown for any reason, no purchase button appears either. A purchase without a visible amount is not something we will ask you to make. In that case the page offers a way back and you can try again later.

Starting a session

Once you have a credit, the planner opens on Ready when you are. with a line telling you how many sessions are available and the reminder that there is no rush — you can save and resume any time. The button is Start a new session.

Starting a session is what spends a credit. Nothing else does. Working through the questions, going back to change an answer, generating your documents and downloading them again later all cost nothing.

If you already have a session under way, the planner takes you straight back into it rather than asking again.

If your two years have passed

You will see Your credits have expired, with the date they expired on. It means you cannot start a new plan with them.

Anything you already made is untouched. You can still open it, download it and print it, for as long as you have an account. If you need to plan for someone else after that, you can buy the planner again.

Planning from outside Canada

From outside Canada, payment comes first. The planner will say so, and once payment goes through you have full access.

Where to go next

Working through the planner walks through the questions themselves.
